Unusual AFRICAN Carved Figure hand on mouth

A striking and very well carved figure of wood. I love the angular, economical carving which gives a dramatic effect. A jute rope head dress sheathes a crop of stiff bristles forming an alarming outcrop of hair.

I am no authority on African figures- and would appreciate any confirmation of regional style, probable age, tribe of origin etc via email. The item would appear to have had some treatment, perhaps a glue or similar applied to underside (only)?

Good condition- no splits cracks borer etc. ‘Hair’ perhaps a little worn.
