Item Description

STYLISH, RARE, & HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE, SPLIT REED WICKER furniture (also sometimes referred to as ‘stick wicker’) from the 1920's or 1930's.

Included are 2 couches, 3 large arm chairs, and a round footrest / seat; plus a rattan and wood, two-level corner table; and glass-topped rattan couch table.

All pieces are painted deep sea green, with zippered cushions covered in peach, pink and sea green floral cotton, (NOT ORIGINAL). Two ruffled throw pillows covered in different, but complimentary fabric, are included.

Besides being a Great Investment, these are beautiful pieces and functional, too. They can be used in a Florida room, porch, or vacation home; or as your primary furniture.  It would be easy to repaint them, and / or recover the cushions to suit your taste.

Similar pieces are currently selling for considerable sums, elsewhere.  Contact me, if you would like me to Email you recent listings.

The set includes pieces with several designs, as follows:

  • Couch - Ribbon style with narrow arm rests: 68"w x 29"d x 33"h; ~60 lbs.
  • Couch - Ribbon style with paddle arm rests: 72"w x 32"d x 33"h; ~60 lbs.
  • Chair - Ribbon style with narrow arm rests: 34"w x 32"d x 33"h; ~25 lbs.
  • Chair - Ribbon style with wide, ribbon arm rests: 30"w x 29"d x 33"h; ~30 lbs.
  • Chair - Ribbon style with paddle arm rests: 34"w x 32"d x 33"h; ~30 lbs.
  • Footrest - Round, 23" diameter - Albini-like design; ~10 lbs.
  • Corner two level wooden table: 28"w x 28"d x 22"h; ~30 lbs.
  • Glass-topped couch table: 46"w x 17"d x 13.5"h; ~30 lbs.
  • Pillows - Above weights do not include pillows, which are 2 lbs. each for a total of 36 lbs., plus 5 lbs. for throw pillows.

Email me for additional photos showing the construction of some of the pieces, as well as the condition issues mentioned below.

CONSTRUCTION

  • All pieces are solidly constructed.  One couch and chair have springs backed with cardboard and green matting.  The cardboard has writing on it, though it is not visible when the furniture is assembled.  I assume it was used to replace the original material, at some point.
  • The other couch and chairs have open frame bases.
  • All are topped by inset boards cut to the size of the seat base, and upholstered in the cushion material, except for one chair board, which is upholstered in sea green material matching the paint. Cushions rest on these.

CONDITION

This set was in my family since at least the 1950's and is in excellent condition, except for very minor issues noted below:

  • A couple of pieces have minor paint chips.
  • Corner table has a visible split along seam where wood pieces are joined on top, (ask for photo).  However, the piece is sturdy.
  • Couch table is somewhat bowed toward the middle, (ask for photo), and one piece of glass has a ~2" crack in the corner, and a chip along one edge.
  • One seat cushion's foam is slightly dented.

LOCAL PICK-UP

This set is located at an accessible storage facility in Fort Lee, New Jersey, 5 minutes from the George Washington bridge. Pick up can be arranged during the day on Saturday or Sunday.  These pieces are lightweight, but take up a lot of space.  You will need a van or small truck, or will have to make a couple of trips.

SHIPPING

If you want to arrange to have the furniture shipped, I'd be glad to coordinate pick-up with a shipping company of your choice at the storage facility, Thursdays – Sundays, however they would have to pack and load the pieces.  (The storage facility has a loading dock.)

You may want to try: www.uship.com.  I think they are an 'approved vendor' on ebay, - though am not sure.

You can use the dimension and weight information from this add to post an add on their website.  Furniture movers from their database will bid on the move.  As far as I know, there is no cost or obligation for soliciting moving bids on their site, so it is an easy way to get actual quotes of how much moving the furniture to your location would cost.  Each supplier has a feedback rating and user reviews of their service, to help you identify a well-regarded and experienced mover.

If you want to ship the furniture, you need to choose a household goods moving service, rather than a freight service, because the latter requires that the furniture be crated and 'palletized', which I'm not able to provide.

Also, because the furniture is light-weight, movers will probably use dimensional weight, rather than actual weight, to estimate the cost of the move.  Though uship.com provides a Price Estimator, it may not give you an accurate result, because it uses actual weight.  Therefore, it is best to post the actual details of the move on their site, and solicit real bids.

Feel free to contact me with questions about shipping and I will try to work with you to find a good solution.

PAYMENT

  Cash at Pick-up, OR

Pick-up, or ship, once payment clears: PayPal or personal check.

If you plan to pick up the furniture, have already paid me for it and your payment has cleared, but you do not like it when you see it, I will refund your money in full by check.

No refunds once the items leave the storage unit.
