THIS IS A WONDERFUL EXAMPLE OF EXTREME PRIMITIVE FOLK ART! IT IS A MUSTARD PAINTED EARLY WOOD SERAPH WEATHERVANE ANGEL! If you like primitives...don't miss this one...it is definitely a great addition to your extreme prim collection! The pics don't do it justice...I am not the best picture taker in the world...lol...but I know you will just love this when you see it in real life if you win this auction....the paint and patina are just the BEST!
This seraph was fashioned after an old early antique weathervane we saw in Sturbridge, MA a few years ago. This was made by our son...he is a very talented folk artist and makes all kinds of neat old primitive things....this one was made with very old early chestnut wood that is from our old farm. The wood is over 100 years old and the paint and patina on this is just the best early primitive finish you will ever find anywhere! He did a great job on this! You will just LOVE IT!
This is a great size! It measures 32 inches long from horn to shoe tips and it is 27 inches tall when it is sitting on the stand. The stand is made from an early block of thick wood and has a cone shaped top with a copper rod to hold the seraph and allow it to move - it will actually move with the wind if you plan to attach it outside somewhere. You can use it outside or inside as it has a very primitive early walnut beeswax finish that can withstand the weathering. The early wood has weathered wonderfully for years and this just adds to the great patina!
He made me one for Mothers Day and surprised me with it....then he decided to make another one for you to buy here....it is something I will cherish forever! I put mine on top of an old stepback cupboard for now but when it gets closer to the fall and winter holidays I will use it for a nice early centerpiece for our large farmhouse table with drieds and fruits all around the base. It would also look nice as a focal point for an old mantle or on a primitive table. You decide where to put it if you buy it in this auction!
This is a wonderful EXTREME PRIMITIVE SERAPH! If you like early prims you will adore this....if you want perfect....don't bid...this is for the extreme primitive lover only! It is primitive, chippy old mustard paint, black painted accents on the wings, horn, and shoes....what a wonderful combination!
This will come to you signed and dated by Corbett from ~Corbett's Collection~ and will be a nice collectible someday....it is a ONE OF A KIND! I don't know if he plans to make more of these or not...this was made with some wonderful old early wood and I am not sure if he has enough left to do another one or not....don't let this one get away...bid early so you don't miss out!
