"My Recent Trip to Caves on Sam Roi Yod Mountain"
During Mar 22-26, 2008, I had a 5 days trip to Sam Roi Yod mountain in Prachupkhirikhan and Phu Pha Leg mountain in Sakonnakorn. The purpose of this trip is to visit and see the source of the Relics stone which are found in many caves on Sam Roi Yod mountain and also visit and see the source of Eye of Naga amulets which were found in many caves on Phu Pha Leg mountain (please see another article about my trip to the Phu Pha Leg which will be shared on ebay soon).
As I have been listing many Relics stone amulets on ebay for sometime which I got them from a Chinese temple and village people at the foot of the mountain, so I decided to go to the caves where the relics stones were taken from since I want to see the source of the stones by myself. I made an appointment with a village guy and his wife who live at the foot of the mountain. On Mar 22, I slept in a near-by hotel and in the next morning, I met with the village guy and his wife and drove together to a small Thai Wat(temple) which is located close to the mountain and left my car there.
From the Wat, all of us walked up the mountain. At the beginning, I feel very exciting and actively walked up into the forest following the village guy and his wife. They told me that they would bring me to 3 caves. First cave is called “Sethi Cave”, second cave is “Sam Sri Cave” and the last cave is “Ta Pae Cave”. He said that first and second caves are not too far and both are very small caves but many beautiful stones were found there. The third cave is a very big cave with a lot of growing stones inside and was the destination of this trip. Actually, there are more than 10 or maybe 20 caves on the mountain and even some caves are still unexplored. Each cave has powerful stones which have unique style of colors and curls. However, these 3 caves are the nearest and lowest caves. Some other caves might take at least a day to climb to there. After 1 hours walking and climbing, the slope was steeper and steeper and that made me climb slower and slower and although there were many stopping break along the way but I still felt very tired and began to think about changing the destination. “Maybe first cave should be enough”, I told the village guy. He laughed and said that we were about to reach the first cave very soon.
At last, I could reach the first cave, Sethi cave which is a small cave. Actually, it looked like a big hole dug into the mountain but the stones found there made me exciting since there were many small relics, looked like some kind of nut, found naturally inside many pieces of stones found there in the cave. After making my mind asking for permission to the devas who keep this cave, I took a few stones back with me and then we continue our climbing to the second cave.
The path from the first cave to the second cave was much more steeper and needed to carefully walked step by step over many pillar-alike rocks and on some path, we need to climb around a stone well which made me almost don’t want to move my legs and couldn’t imagine what would happen if anyone fell down. After another 1 hour climbing, finally, I could reach the second cave, Sam Sri cave which also looked like a big hole dug into the mountain. The stones found there made me exciting again since all stones around that cave had very colorful curls and lines which were very beautiful by nature. We then had a break and lunch there. The village guy and his wife were not tired at all but for me, I admitted that I was already exhausted and didn’t want to go to the third cave anymore. Accordingly, all of us began to climb back down the mountain on the same way that we climbed up.
For me, going down was much more difficult since my legs didn’t have any more strength and it was very easy to slip over a stone and fell down the mountain. At that moment, I wished I had a helicopter that could bring me directly to the ground. At last, after 2 next terrible hours climbing down the mountain and with the help of the village guy holding my arms along the way, I finally could safely touch the ground. I was very impressed with this trip and appreciated the hospitality of the village guy and his wife.
