The lanterns are made of brass and are nickel plated. One lantern is missing its manufactures tag. The other one still has it and it is marked HURRICANE TESTED MARINE LIGHTS WILCOX CRITTENDEN & CO. INC. MIDDLETOWN CONN. USA. There is also embosed on the tag and old masted sailing ship in rough seas. Both lamps are in good original condition. One has a green glass lens. The other has a red glass lens. One is for port and the other is for starboard. Both of these lenses are in good condition with no cracks. The red lens has a couple of small chips on it. The lanterns each measure not counting the bail handle on top 7" in height by 2 3/4" in depth by 4 3/4 in width. The bail handles on top measure 1 3/4" in height. There is a 1" bail handle on the front of each lantern. All of the bail handles turn freely. Each lantern has a mounting bracket on the back. The bracket is made to slide over a flat piece of metal. The backs are hand soldered. I am not sure what kind of lighting device went inside of the lanterns. There is a clip inside each one that could hold a candle or a light bulb. There are no dents, broken or missing parts on the lanterns. I am not sure but something went on the bottom of the lantern to enclose them. But if there was it is missing. I recently purchased these lamps from a local estate of an elderly gentleman. I know they are very old but am unsure exactly when they date to. A wonderful addition to any maritime collection or if you just want to own a really great old pair of navigation lights. I am selling this item with no reserve. I do accept personal checks but will wait until it clears your bank to ship the item out. If you have any questions please feel free to email me and I will gladly answer them. Thank you for looking and happy bidding. | | |
