This is a very old Martin Freres (Fres) wooden clarinet. The bottom of the leather case is marked Trade Mark with a music score and the initials MW with some kind of an animal in the center, then Warranted. This is contained within an oval. Below that it says Registered July 18. 93. I did not picture this end of the case but the other end is pictured and I cannot make out what it says.

There are four pieces to the instrument. I am not sure if the top part of the clarinet is two pieces or one. I was not able to part the two pieces and did not want to force anything. Two of the pieces, the bell and the top half are stamped Martin Fres a Paris in a dotted oval. There is a bee or some kind of an insect above that. Below is a fancy monogram letter, looks like an F and below that it says B, then high pitch. There is a mouthpiece which has a chunk missing and bite marks. It is marked France and there is a mouthpiece cover which looks like it is silver plated, very tarnished.

The leather case is in excellent condition, all parts are there, clasp, handle etc. Stitching is intact and the clasp functions nicely. I am not an expert in any way on old musical instruments. My best guess is that this instrument would need to be reconditioned. There is a groove down the side of the part that the mouthpiece fits into, it is not a crack. There is a very fine what looks like a hairline crack at the top of the second half (my photo looks a lot worse than the actual damage) of the clarinet. All the parts appear to be here, except the mouthpiece clamp.
